The Commonwealth Engineers' Council is a global network whose aim is to advance the science, art and practice of engineering for the benefit of humankind. CEC Membership is open to all engineering institutions and societies across the 54 countries of the Commonwealth. CEC also welcomes Associate Members and Corresponding Members, being those organisations and individuals respectively who have an interest in CEC matters.
Engineering is at the heart of social and economic development. As engineers we recognise our responsibility and the importance of working closely with other professions and with the engineering community at large. Find out more about us here. |
The Kigali Commitment
By 2050, an additional 2.5 billion people will be living in the world's towns and cities, with almost 50% of that growth taking place in commonwealth countries. Member states are facing the impacts of climate change and rapid urbanisation. With almost 50% of Commonwealth citizens living and working in cities and human settlements, and 65% of the 169 targets underlyiing the 17 SDGs linked to territorial and urban development, sustainable urbanisation must be central to the Commonwealth's agenda for delivering a common future: connecting, innovating, and transforming. In June 2022 the CEC, along with leaders from several Commonwealth architecture, engineering and planning associations came together to consider how they can contribute to the Call to Action on Sustainable Urbanisation across the Commonwealth, and they resolved to commit themselves to work together in a multi-disciplinary collaboration.
