PAS2080 The Carbon Management Standard
15th July 2025
08:30 - 09:30 BST (UK summertime)
Lewis Barlow, decarbonisation head of profession at WSP UK, will highlight the critical role of PAS 2080: Carbon Management in Buildings and Infrastructure in driving global decarbonisation efforts. As the world grapples with the urgent need to mitigate climate change, PAS 2080 provides a robust framework for managing carbon across the entire infrastructure value chain. This talk will explore how PAS 2080 facilitates the reduction of carbon emissions through a systematic approach that integrates carbon management into infrastructure planning, design, construction, and operation.
Lewis will share insights on the international uptake of PAS 2080, highlighting successful implementations of the approach in the UK, Sweden, and Australia. These examples will demonstrate how the whole life carbon management process has enabled these countries to make significant strides towards their national net zero targets. The presentation will also address the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing PAS 2080 in different regions, emphasising the importance of collaboration among stakeholders.
Lewis will also outline the broader initiatives of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and industry best practices for decarbonisation. He will provide an overview of the ICE's efforts to promote sustainable infrastructure development and the role of civil engineers in leading the transition to a low-carbon future. Attendees will gain valuable knowledge on how to leverage PAS 2080 to achieve meaningful emissions reductions and support sustainable economic growth.
This talk is particularly relevant for civil engineers, policymakers, and industry leaders who are committed to advancing decarbonisation in the built environment. By the end of the session, participants will have a deeper understanding of PAS 2080 and its potential to transform the future of civil and infrastructure engineering.
This event is organised by CEC in partnership with the Institution of Civil Engineers.
