Regional Representative of the Pacific Region

Pratarp is a Fijian national and the Managing Director of ENTEC Pte Limited, a private Fijian civil engineering consultancy practice. He obtained his tertiary engineering education in the 80’s from Melbourne, Australia. In addition to engineering, he practices alternative dispute resolution. He is the Immediate Past President of the South Pacific Engineers Association (SPEA), former President of The Fiji Institution of Engineers (FIE) and a former Commissioner of the Fiji Higher Education Commission. He is a Fellow of Engineers Australia, Engineering NZ and Engineers Fiji. Pratarp is one of the founders of SPEA.
Over the last 25 years he has been actively involved in building community resilience in the Pacific. In the last 15 years he has been an active Member supporting the activities of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO). He has been a Board Member of the International Federation of Municipal Engineering (IFME) since the year 2014.
In the region he has built a close working relationship with the international development partners, academia and public and private sectors. He has a very good understanding and broad knowledge of the modern day challenges and opportunities in the engineering services sector, especially in post disaster needs analysis area where he has a serious interest and commitment to assist the vulnerable communities. He believes quality engineering is the cornerstone of a successful economy. Well planned physical and administrative infrastructure are key to long-term sustainability and economic success.
His views of some of the UN Sustainable Development Goals together with the prediction made in the Global Infrastructure Outlook, a study by Oxford Economics and Global Infrastructure Hub (a G20 initiative) have put the engineering profession at cross roads. Worldwide, the profession needs to consolidate its long-term partnership with the Policy Makers. Lack of foresight for engineering capacity and therefore, inadequate investment in engineering education and training are very likely to lead to economic failures and delivery of the relevant SDG’s in time. In support of this, he has personally funded and delivered through the South Pacific Engineers Association and the Fiji Institution of Engineers many lifelong learning programs.
