Our Patron: Barry Grear AO
Barry Grear BTech, Grad Dip Bus Admin, FACE, CPEng
Barry was elected Patron of the Commonwealth Engineers' Council in 2021 in recognition of his long service to CEC and WFEO.
Since 1997 until 2019 Barry has participated in every General Assembly of the World Federation of Engineering Organisations {WFEO) and the Commonwealth Engineering Council.
Barry was elected as President of WFEO from 2007 to 2009. He was President of Engineers Australia in 1997-98.
Barry has a longstanding interest in the international recognition of engineers. He has been involved with the Washington Accord and was inaugural Chair of the APEC Engineers.
Barry has had experience for over 35 Years in Emergency Management and Disaster Relief. His international interests have been through RedR where he held the position of International President.
In the 2001 Australia Day Honours he was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for service to the engineering profession, particularly through Engineers Australia, and through his commitment to education and disaster services organisations.
From an apprentice Electrical Fitter to a wonderful career in the South Australian Public service the engineering profession has served him well.
