Who We Are
The Commonwealth Engineers' Council is an official Commonwealth Accredited organisation, which formed in 1946. We are made up of Full Members, Associate Members and Individual Members from across all regions of the Commonwealth, and we have an active group of Young Engineers / Future Leaders. We are also involved in a number of partnership with other relevant professional built environment groups.

The Commonwealth Engineers Council is a global network whose aim is to advance the science, art and practice of engineering for the benefit of humankind. CEC Membership is open to all engineering institutions and societies across the 56 countries of the Commonwealth. Engineering is at the heart of social and economic development. As engineers we recognise our responsibility and the importance of working closely with other professions and with the engineering community at large.

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in the UK serves as the Secretariat for the Commonwealth Engineers’ Council. ICE’s ties to CEC have been longstanding, and the current CEC President is a Fellow of the ICE, Dawn Bonfield.

The Council’s main aims and objectives are the following:
- To foster co-operation and the exchange of information among the members and other similar organisations;
- To support the development of in-country engineering institutions throughout the Commonwealth;
- To foster the education, training and professional development of engineering practitioners at all levels of professional and technical competence;
- To strive for increased equity, diversity and inclusion within the engineering profession;
- To promote dialogue on ethical standards within the profession;
- To encourage and facilitate the transfer of technology between countries;
- To facilitate recognition of engineering qualifications and promote mobility of engineering practitioners across the Commonwealth countries;
- To promote meetings on engineering and related subjects;
- To undertake specific projects relating to the objectives of the Council;
- To do all other things incidental and conducive to the attainment of the objects of the Council;
- To promote virtual communication networks to facilitate the implementation of these aims and objectives.

CEC is made up of three categories of membership: Full Member; Associate Member, and Individual Member.
Full members are constituted Professional Engineering Institutions or groups of organisations in Commonwealth countries and it is only Full Members who are eligible to vote. CEC Full Members can be found here. CEC also welcomes Associate Members and Individual Members, being those organisations and individuals respectively who have an interest in CEC matters. Associate Members and Individual members do not have the right to vote nor be eligible to hold CEC positions. All members are subject to the rules of the CEC Constitution. |
